This is the rice grid’s stroke guidance with the pinyin field grid’s reading line, aimed at beginners who are still learning both how a character is written and how it is said. The ruled line sits above each guided square, so a new character arrives on the page with its pronunciation attached rather than as a shape to memorise in isolation.
Once stroke placement and tone become automatic, most learners move down to the pinyin field grid, and then drop the pinyin line altogether. This sheet is the starting point for that progression.
