Pinyin Flashcards
Pinyin flashcards (拼音卡, pīn yīn kǎ) are printable cut-and-fold cards for learning Chinese phonetics. Each card carries a pinyin symbol on the front and, on the back, every valid syllable that uses it, with tones and the most common character for each syllable-and-tone combination.

Chinese pronunciation is a closed system: only a fixed set of syllables actually occur, and only certain tones go with each. These cards are built around that, so you drill the sounds that exist rather than combinations that never come up. Characters in the top 1,000 most common are highlighted, so you can anchor each syllable to a word you will actually meet.
The front of each card shows the pinyin symbol, its modified and variant forms where they exist, the zhuyin (bopomofo) equivalent, and a reference number. The back does the real work: every valid syllable for that sound, with tones and example characters.

How to make it
- Print the PDF onto whatever paper or card you like.
- Each page holds two cards: cut around the outside, then cut down the middle to separate them.
- Fold each card in half and hold it shut with tape or a glue stick. No need to line up a second printed side.
